After much discernment, we are happy to announce the establishment of Saint Joseph’s Home for pregnant mothers in need. The home will provide transitional housing and others services for mothers during pregnancy and up to year after the birth of their child. There will be a chapel for prayer and spiritual support. This initiative is independent of Holy Rosary Shrine, but is the effort of people who are part of the Shrine Community with the full support and help of the friars.
Pope Saint John Paul II and Pope Francis both have emphasized the mission of Catholic shrines to serve the poor as centers of evangelization. In the battle against legal abortion, our bishops have recently initiated the Walking with Moms in Need program to encourage the faithful to generously serve mothers in crisis pregnancy situations. Also, Cardinal O’Malley, in his letter of October 2023, has called attention to the great housing crisis in our state, especially for immigrants and the poor. None are more vulnerable than single pregnant mothers.
Besides all this, we have Our Lord’s admonition that what we do to the least, we do to Him. (Mt 25:40) More information will be coming with opportunities for all in the Shrine Community to participate in this work of mercy. The initial web page can be found at stjosephshome.life. Please pray that it all be done according to God’s Holy Will. God bless you.
