It is telling that secular feminists and the allied transgender movement are divided among themselves. They dispute whether the goal is to make gender purely a matter of choice, or to emphasize the unjust treatment of biological women. These debates are examples of the inevitable confusion that comes from turning away from the source and goal of our existence, God. We do not decide who we are. Our identity is a gift to be gratefully received from our Creator.
These reflections have attempted to briefly outline the truth of why God created us male and female. Likewise, we have seen how in the more important matters of the heart and love, the feminine is actually superior to the masculine emphasis.
St. John Paul II explains that the controversial submission of wives to their husbands taught in Ephesians 5 is rooted in in a mutual submission out of reverence to Christ. The Church, the family, and indeed the universe itself are patriarchal because God is our Father. Women have long suffered, and continue to suffer, from abuses of male authority. But the abuse does not negate the right use, abusus non tollit usum. Motherhood is a privileged and beautiful participation in the Fatherhood of God.
To close, let us remember again the Second Luminous Mystery of the Rosary, the Miracle at the Wedding Feast of Cana. The Lord and Master obeys the woman and mother. He changes His plan because of her attentiveness to the primacy of love. This was not a one-time event. The Mother of God is also the Mediatrix of All Graces. Every grace that Jesus earned for us comes to us through the hands of this Woman. The Bridegroom entrusts all He has to His Bride. So also He wishes to share all He has with each one of us.
God bless you.
