We have passed the third anniversary of the rectory fire, and we can’t help but recall the many miracles which happened that night:
- Father Mawn was safe and uninjured.
- Our Church was intact and no fire penetrated our spiritual home, and
- Although we were in the middle of a stormy Winter’s night, there was no wind to spread the ferocious flames.
The fire is a terrorizing memory that we will never forget, but we came back. We rose from the ashes stronger and more resilient than ever. We’re back! We’re home! Although the restoration process may have seemed slow to some, we need to look at how far we have come! From that awful night when it looked like horrific flames would destroy our beautiful Church, to this time right now. Our beloved Franciscans do everything they can for us, and because of their tireless efforts, new families are coming to the shrine, many new volunteers are gladly doing a multitude of tasks, and a host of spiritual events are constantly scheduled.
God is working within all of us letting His light shine within His people.
In three years, we have successfully risen from the ashes, and our faith is stronger than ever. As we travel through our Lenten journey, let us be mindful of all God’s great gifts. He has bestowed upon us many miracles and countless blessings, and He continues to strengthen us every day with His love, mercy, grace and wisdom. May the holy season of Lent be filled with renewal, great devotion and thanks as we walk the way of the cross with Jesus. Rejoice and be glad, for the Lord remains with us always.
